BECOME A LONG BEACH SHARKS JUNIOR HOCKEY BILLET FAMILY

BECOME A LONG BEACH SHARKS JUNIOR HOCKEY BILLET FAMILY FOR THE 2020-2021 SEASON

The Long Beach Sharks junior hockey team, Long Island’s only North American 3 Hockey League (www.na3hl.com) junior hockey team, is currently seeking billet families for the upcoming 2020-2021 season. If selected, your family will have the opportunity to host player(s) recruited for the upcoming season.

Our players range in age from 16 – 20 and will be training daily on and off the ice as they pursue their goal of playing collegiate hockey. A sound and stable billet family is key to the success to our program. Billet families invite players into their homes to be a part of their family for approximately eight (8) months out of the year. They are not a tenant but a part of your family. The unique bonds your family will form with the player(s) often last a lifetime. While the host family will receive some financial compensation, the ultimate reward is developing relationships that often carry on well beyond the player’s time with the team.

What is expected from a billet family?
When a family agrees to host a member of the team, they are required to provide room and board for the player. The family also needs to make nutritious food available while the player is at your home. While on the road, the team and the players will take care of their own food expenses.

What is expected of the player?
Players provide their own personal care items and are expected to take care of their own transportation needs (many have their own car but it is possible the player periodically may ask for a ride to practice). Each player must adhere to all team and house rules and show respect and consideration toward all family members. This includes cleaning up after himself and keeping his room tidy.

How long is a host family’s commitment?
Generally, players arrive at the end of August and stay through the end of the season in March or April, depending on how far the team advances in the playoffs.  Some players may wish to stay on after the hockey season to complete the school year. All players will go home over the holiday break.

If you are interested in becoming a Sharks host family, please complete the Billet Family Questionnaire HERE and e-mail the completed form to

Sharks Partner with Jack Skille

SHARKS PARTNER WITH NHL-VETERAN JACK SKILLE

We are pleased to share that the Sharks have partnered with NHL-veteran, Jack Skille, to provide our players with off-ice workout routines during these challenging times. The workouts are intense and target muscles and movements for hockey without the need for special equipment.

He played for the US National Development; competed in two (2) World Junior Championships and won a Gold medal in 2005, won an NCAA Division I championship at the University of Wisconsin, and played 2 seasons in the Elite European Hockey League. He currently plays for the Neurmberg Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers in the German Elite League (DEL).
